I have loved this year so much! Thank you for all the support and for sharing your child with me this year.

I told the students I would post the slideshow I made. I hope you enjoy it as much we did! We've watched it 5 times already.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on the last day tomorrow! Have a good night. :-)

Shelburne Farms:
We had a great time at Shelburne Farms. I think it only rained getting on the buses. We were able to catch bugs, salamanders, worms, and frogs in the pond and forest. We learned you need to rub dirt on your hands before picking up these creatures. a lot of students fell asleep on the bus ride home. I took a long nap as soon as I got home after school!

Foster Grandparent Recognition Dinner:
Earlier this month, I was able to go to the annual Foster Grandparent Recognition Dinner. It was fun celebrating Nana (Marion Kennedy) for all the help she gives us. Hooray for all the Foster Grandparents!

Smoothies and a Celebration!

Important Dates:

Tuesdays: library
April Vacation - 24 - 28
Early Release - May 10

This week before vacation went by so fast! The students read a ton of books during reader's workshop each day. We finished up our place value unit (how mathematician's break apart two digit numbers). And we had a great time during the whole school celebration and making smoothies!

Smoothies:
Melissa (Charley's mom) came in and made healthy, delicious smoothies with the class. Many of the students wanted the recipe:
ice, strawberries, banana, and orange juice.

We  made so much we were able to share with Miss Willoughby's class and Mrs. Thompson's class!

Whole School Celebration:
The school filled the heart monitor again! This meant a school-wide celebration! The entire school went to the cafeteria where tables were set up for us. Then, we played several rounds of BINGO, with Sara Raabe being the number caller! The kids loved it! I think this was their favorite celebration yet!

Cleaning:
We cleaned out desks and lockers on Friday; that is why many students came home with lots of extra papers and clothing.

Have a wonderful vacation week and I'll see you on Monday, May 1.

Literacy:
We are moving on from nonfiction back to fiction! The students very quickly got back into their Reader's Workshop routines and are loving reading fiction books with each other. As a class, we are working on showing we are the Boss of our Reading!

Math:
We continue to work on place value. Miss Willoughby shared a great website (kahoot.it). Using this website, we played a class game on our ipads to review many of the place value concepts.

Extras for this Week:
This week was a super busy week! On Monday, People from KPMG volunteered their time to read with each class and donate two books for each student. Our class loved hearing the Disney stories.

On Friday, the high school teamed up with the elementary school to create a district wide art display. Our class had so much fun with high school students! Here are pictures of the students working together and then the finished art display.

Our goal is to have our research project done by Friday! I will post pictures of our completed work next week! All groups are now working on their final drafts. The groups have typed up part of their text and some have started adding color to their illustrations. The students are learning a lot about monkeys, dogs, cats, sharks, and dolphins. Super work researchers!

Math:
Wow! You should see these mathematicians break 2 digit numbers apart! Their understanding of place value grows everyday. I'm so impressed with the connections they are making.

Whole School Morning Meeting:
First grade was in charge of the whole school morning meeting this week. We created a video to demonstrate our greeting and share. We had a fun movement activity, and ended with a message. Super job first grade!

Healthy Snack:
On Thursday we had edible flowers from the cafeteria for healthy snack. Just about everyone tried them!
